Introduction

The Psalmist said; I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord who made heaven an earth (Ps.121: 1-2).

And I ask these questions which I know everyone will have an answer to them.   The questions are:

  • Have you ever taken time to ask yourself who sees you  through in your daily activities?
  • Who calms you in your pains especially when they are so excruciating?

I know everyone will definitely have  answers to the questions which may not be far from what I am going to write about here.  Let’s continue.

Wait,  before I continue  “May I ask you to get connected with me Here for a life transformation series of learning and getting help that will change your story for life?  Please don’t doubt this great Help I am offering you and I will be there to see you through it all.

What does it mean to lift up one’s eyes

This could mean  trusting God to help you in times of need.  See Psalm 46:1 which says: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  No matter what is happening around you lift up and look up to Him and He never fails nor forsake  His own.  That’s why the Psalmist says a very present help in trouble.  What could that situation be?  Note that He commanded us to cast our burden on Him for He cares for us (1 Pet.5:7).   Caring for us means helping us, being there for us.  jlko 44443444

Our Lord Jesus Christ at a point in time passed through excruciating pain, torture  and death but before his death on the cross of Calvary for you and I; He turned to God for help.  Lets see how the Bible recorded this event in Matt.27:46 and I quote: “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You Forsaken Me?  He looked up to God; He cried to Him for help.

While He was in agony, He made a prayer in Matt.26:42 where He said, “….He went away and prayed saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Let Your will be done.”  He knew that His time was at hand but He still need the Father’s help hence the cry in Matt. 27:46

Note:  That Jesus was not actually forsaken because God has already Glorified Him,  but at this moment of grief when He has to drink this bitter drink of carrying the entire sins of the world upon His head; God has to remove His face for His Son to drink from the cup as to deliver mankind  from our sins

Let’s cite some people in the Bible who put their trust in God or look up to Him for their help

I want to quickly cite one interesting issue in the Bible concerning a King and his people that looked up to God for help.  Turn your Bibles with me to Second Chronicles Chapter Twenty from verses One to eighteen (that’s 2 Chronicles 20:1 – 18)

This scenario tells the story how warriors gathered against Jehoshaphat and when he was informed about it, he sought God for help.  Verses 2 – 17  is paraphrased thus: “Then some came and told Jehoshaphat saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea,…

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.  So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord……If disaster comes upon us – sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine – we will stand before this temple and in Your presence… and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save….

Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel…. and he said, Listen all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem and you King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you; “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s…. You will not need to fight in this battle.  Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you O Judah and Jerusalem.  Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them for the Lord is with you.

There are so many of them but I will just write about a few of them.  Let’s take a look at the story of Joseph, you know what; I love this young man whom the Spirit of God was directing and as such continue to dream of what he knew not will one day manifest.  The most aspect of his life that I love is enduring in suffering because He knows who His maker was.  Hence in all situations he remained focused on the Life Giver who was  His God.   While in the house of his slave master, God’s mighty Hands were upon him because he has never failed to look up to God.   He could make such pronouncement when evil came knocking at the door of his hear.t.

What was  that pronouncement?  When Potiphar’s wife continued to mount pressure on him to lie with her; he said:  “how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God” (9c} and the young man fled from sinning against His God and God crown him with favor, glory and honor.  Gen. 39: 1-41:37-44 .

Whenever we look up to God, He looks down on us so that we will not stumble nor allow our feet to be moved.  Because He that keepeth us neither slumber nor sleep.  He is always awake to keep us safe so that the sun does not smite us by day nor the moon by night!

When we look upon Him, He preserves us from all evil, He preserves our souls,  He preserves our going out and our coming in all the days of our lives.

Ways God helps His Children

There are certain situations in life that will befall us and  that will make us think as though we are abandoned;  child of God hear what God is saying to His children including “You and I” –  in Isaiah 49:;14-16 which says:

But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and My Lord has forgotten me”.  But the Lord responded thus:  “Can a woman forget her nursing child and not have compassion on the son of her womb?  He said further that;”  Surely they may forget( that is the woman who bore you might forget but God said:  “yet I will not forget you.”  See I have inscribed you on the Palms of My hands; your walls are continually before me….”

He said also in Isaiah 54:10:  that “The mountains may move, and the hills may shake but my kindness will never depart from you.  My promise of peace will never change…  The God that promised us kindness and peace will never leave us to circumstances that will swallow us up.  Note circumstances will surely come and His promises are ever sure as recorded below:

In I Corinthians 10:13,  the Bible made me to understand that there is no any temptation that we experience which is unusual for humans.  God who faithfully keeps His promises will not allow us to be tempted beyond our power to resist.  But when you are tempted He will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.

And these and more God is always doing for us.  Do not think calamities will not come to us- He will give us the ability to endure that and open up a way of escape.  What a great God we serve.

Apostle Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 that “In every way we are troubled but we are not crushed by our troubles.  We are frustrated but we don’t give up.  We are persecuted but we are not abandoned.  We are captured but we are not killed”

When you are afraid remember that the Lord is your light and your salvation so you don’t have to fear anyone or things. (Psalm 27:1.)  Hear also what Prophet Isaiah recounted in Chapter 43:1-2.  “Do not be afraid because I have reclaimed you, I have called you by name; you are mine.  That when you go through the sea, I am with you.  When you go through rivers, they will not sweep you away.  When you walk through fire, you will not be burned and the flames will not harm you.  If God spoke these words will He not bring them to pass in our lives?

The Psalmist  also said in Psalm 23 that ” The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures.  He leads me beside the still waters and restores my soul….  Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, Why?  Because The Lord is with me, His rod and staff comfort me.  And because He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies and also anoint my head with oil.  Surely His goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Heb.13:5-6 says; The Lord is my helper I will not be afraid.  What can mortals do to me.  Well, Jesus also stated that we should not fear those who can kill the body but fear Him who can destroy both  soul and the body in hell (Matt.10:28)

All these and others are ways God shows His love, care and help for us.

So what is/are the condition(s) we must meet to enjoy God’s help in our life?

Dwelling in the House of the Lord forever, remaining in His presence is a very important ingredient in our Christian lives.  Remember the Big Book of Wisdom says: “Not everyone that says Lord, Lord  shall enter into God’s kingdom but those who do His will (Matt. 7:21)

So many are before Him for what they will acquire – selfish desires, to satisfy their greed, lust and every other vices.  I love the Lord so much because of His patience, faithfulness and the freedom of choice He gave to His children since we are always at loggerheads with Him.

Deut.30:19-20 is clear about the choice we make.  It says “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live,  that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice and that you may cling to Him for He is your life and the length of your days…

Who will see that his life and length of days are in God’s hands and will not want to remain in His presence so that no matter the person’s situation(s)of life God will be there to help us all.

I want us to note that help is not just synonymous with humans alone, other creatures of God also render help in their own little way.  Take a look at this picture

Quotes that will help us when in divers situations

In as much as it is difficult to stop worrying when situations strike, it is also doable to stop worrying since the word of God is our source of hope and encouragement.  Study or meditate on these verses to overcome any situation.  The urge will always be their but His word is also sufficient if only we can recite them when such urge emanates.   Read on or  copy or print and paste on your walls for every day recital and remembrance of God’s help for us.

Are you Anxious?

Hear the word of God in Phil.4:6 and I quote; “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.  Let your requests be made known to God, so that the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and minds through Christ Jesus” (NKJV)

Matthew 6:25-34 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature…”

When Discouraged

I want you to try and encourage yourself with these words.  The Psalmist in 42: 5, 11 said: why are you cast down o my soul? Any why are you disquieted within me?  Hope in God for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.  This same words repeated in verse 11.

When discouraged put your trust or hope in God and do not cease to praise Him because He is our situation changer.

Do not also wait for any body to console you whenever in need of any, always turn to God your maker for such words of encouragement

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 says:Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and our God and Father who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Child of God when you lack direction or have lost your way; don’t fail to return to the way Himself for He said in John 14:6 that;  “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me”

Prov.3:5-6 says: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths

Psalm 37:23 states that: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and He delights in his ways

Finally I want us to take note of these words as written in the Book of Isaiah 58: 10-14 (paraphrased)  “If you extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light shall dawn in the darkness and your darkness shall be as the noonday.  The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought and strengthen you bones; You shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail….

If you turn away your foot from the sabbath from doing your pleasure on My Holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, The Holy day of the Lord honorable and shall honor Him not doing your own ways nor finding you own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth….
