Getting wisdom is paramount to all, hence how we get this wisdom will be extensively treated.
The season of celebrations are here with us right from the Thanksgiving Day which was one of America’s major holiday. This comes up in November 24 through the Black Friday- a day after Thanksgiving Day. At this period, sales of products where considered to be at their highest peaks (See write up here) and it continued up till the Cyber Monday.
Cyber Monday is a term created by Marketing companies in order to persuade people to shop online. It was coined by Ellen Davis and Scott Silverman and made it made its debut on November 28, 2005 in a shop.org press release entitled “Cyber Monday”. This made it to become one of the Biggest Online Shopping Day of the year. During this period following the Black Friday, prizes of goods dropped too.
Although the Thanksgiving Day was a major celebration in the United States, the period brings an end to a very lengthy season of Pentecost or Trinity. This season takes about 26 – 28 weeks and culminates in Saint Andrew’s Day marked by every November 30. Saint Andrew’s Day usher in the beginning of a new dawn – a new Christian Calendar year which commences with the Advent.
According to the dictionary, Advent is a noun that means ” the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. It also means, the appearance, emergence, birth, rise, development of a person, thing or event. It could also mean the first season of the Christian Church Year, leading up to Christmas and including four preceding Sundays.
In Christian Theology, this means the coming or second coming of Christ. It is a season when Christians all over prepare for the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ or a period when Christians are anxiously waiting or expectantly wait for the second coming of the Messiah. It is observed by many Churches as a period of waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity or birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas.
Advent is derived from the Latin word “Adventus” meaning “coming” or ‘visit”. Color used during this season is Purple signifying the royalty of Christ. At this period, four candles are placed on a stand and are lighted up, one at every Sunday until the four Sundays culminates at Christmas Day Celebration -The main reason for all the celebrations of the whole month.
This could also be the period when one at the wilderness was asking all men to repent and prepare the way for the coming of Our Lord as quoted here-under. The Gospel according to John 1: 1 – 23 states that; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man but of God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the Only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out saying, “This was He of whom I said, He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.” And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ…. Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, who was you? He confessed and did not deny but confessed, I am not the Christ.: And they asked him, what then? Are you Elijah? He said, I am not….They said to him, who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself? He said: :I am “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord,” as the prophet Isaiah said.
The story of the birth of Jesus will be incomplete and inappropriate if a little history of John the Baptist is not highlighted or mentioned. John was regarded as the forerunner of Jesus Christ. The Gospel according to Luke 1: 3 to the end, we see the story of John the Baptist how the angel Gabriel met Zachariah his father while serving as a priest at the temple to give him the good news of having a child at his old age. Zachariah asked for a sign since he was advanced in age as well as his wife and the angel Gabriel told him he will be mute and not be able to speak until the day these things take place.
Why? Because he didn’t believe that at his age and that of his wife they could have a child again. But with God all things are possible and Elizabeth his wife became pregnant and she hid herself for five months.
When Elizabeth became six months pregnant, this same angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary to a city of Galilee named Nazareth. She was a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph of the house of David. The angel announced to her: “Rejoice, Highly favored one, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women”.
On seeing and hearing the angel, she was startled and troubled at his saying and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then he said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus, He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end”
Mary also asked the angel How can this be since I do not know a man (a virgin)” and the angel said to her “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. The angel went ahead to inform Mary of Elizabeth’s pregnancy and how old it was.
Then Mary succumbed to the message by saying: “She is the maidservant of the Lord, Let it be to her according to His word so he departed from her. And Mary decided to visit Elizabeth her cousin on hearing the news of her pregnancy at that age and Elizabeth reported that on hearing Mary’s greetings, the baby in her womb leaped and she was also filled with the Holy Spirit whereby she stated thus:
“Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord”
And Mary also eulogizes God by singing her praises to Him thus: My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me; and Holy is His name…
Mary soon after the angel ministered to her became pregnant so as she visited her cousin Elizabeth, we could see the drama that unfold, Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesying calling Mary the mother of her Lord should come to her. Mary spent three months with her cousin and when Elizabeth was due for delivery, she gave birth to John and according to their tradition on the eight day during circumcision and naming, the mother told the family members and neighbors that came around that he should be called John but they objected to it saying none of their relatives is known with such names but when his father was asked to state the name he wrote John and immediately he was loosened from the muteness and started praising God. But fear came upon those present and in all hill country of Judea and they questioned what kind of a child will this be? And the hand of the Lord was upon him.
It was at this time Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and he prophesied and said “….And you child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways’ To give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God; with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death. To guide our feet into the way of peace”
So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel. All these took place before Christ was born.
We can also see the space between Jesus and John the Baptist- just six months.
From December 1st all over the world, the roads of every streets, highways, major routes are decorated and Christmas music takes the tone of every songs and affairs including shops where these things are sold are always busy hence the above mentioned sales periods also emanates before the beginning of the season.
But the actual date of the celebration is every December 25th when the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. This celebration does not just commence with the people of the world, but angels first heralded this birth when they visited some shepherds that were keeping watch over their flocks by night.
The Bible stated in Luke 2:1: 40 That it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered in a census. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife who was heavy with child. ( This was after he has been told in the dream to take Mary as his wife for that which is conceive in her is of the Holy Spirit. Joseph noticed that Mary was pregnant, and being just man who fears the Lord wanted to privily send her away but was warned by the angel. See Matthew 1:18-24 )
While they were there her time to deliver came and she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
So it was, there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!. So it was when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us”
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb (See Matt.1:21; Luke 1:31).
So we can see from this lengthy passage that the celebration of this season is heavenly. God celebrated the gift of His son to mankind. Same thing Jesus did before His death, asking us to commune together in the breaking and eating of bread and drinking of the fruit wine which represent his body and blood and that whenever we do it in remembrance of Him.Luke 22:17-20: I Corinthians 11:24-26) It is an injunction, a command that has to be obeyed. So it is with the Great Commission(Matt.28:18 which says “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Amen.
The Bible is clear concerning issues of life and it is left for us to discern the truth about God’s word and remain in it. I love this season because God showered us His Love by giving us His son. Look at the joy everyone experiences no matter the difficulties being faced around the world. The season comes with so much joy and jubilation, love is shared and shown all around the world. In the midst of uncertainties, the period showers blessings, peace, love, brotherhood, good neighborliness and what have you – gifts are given freely and laughter fills the air most especially the Christmas Songs/carols/musics are always a joyous thing to ones heart.
It is a season that breaks all barriers because everyone seizes the opportunity to make it during this season so sales of items and businesses booms in all parts of the world. Colors used is Gold or white hence the fifth candle which is white – lighting our darkness
Soon after the Christmas Day celebration comes the Epiphany. This falls on January 6 in which Christ was manifested to the world. This period marks the visit of the three wise kings to the baby Jesus. Epiphany as it can be seen celebrates two important feast in the Christian Calendar thus: First at birth when he was manifested to the world and second indicates the period of His baptism – in preparation for His ministry, temptation, betrayal, trial, death etc. Hence it is regarded as a period when converts are baptized. It is observed in solemnity , prayer and fasting.
This period stretches through eight or nine weeks of Epiphany and thereafter we proceed to the Lenten season which begins with the Ash Wednesday.
Let’s conclude this write-up with some Bible readings that correspond to these seasons: especially as we await the coming of the Lord, let’s see the warnings He personally gave to us while He was yet in the world as recorded in Mark 13: 3 – 37 and I quote: Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked Him privately, Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?
And Jesus, answering them, began to say: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, I am He, and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled, for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.
But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand or premeditate what you will speak that; for it is not you who speak but the Holy Spirit. Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
So when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet(Daniel 11: 31; 12:11), standing where it ought not (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter. For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.
And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved, but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days. Then if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or Look, He is there! do not believe it. For false christ and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.
But in those days, after that tribulation the sum will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels and gather together His elect from the four winds from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven
Now learn this parable from the fig tree, when its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also when you see these things happening, know that it is near- at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away but My words will be by no means pass away (v31).
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming – in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning – lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!
Isaiah 7:14 says; Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 9: 6-7 says: For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom. To order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 11: 1 – 11 : There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes , nor decide by the hearing of His ears but with righteousness He shall judge the poor….And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious…
Habakkuk 2: 2 – 3 – Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries wait for it. Because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Our environment is a very complex one that is filled with all sorts of human wisdom as well as knowledge. The environment contains both good and or positive things as well as negative products or things.
Some of its products are natural – i.e from source (God the creator) and others are man-made like technological advancement being experienced on daily basis. No one can state the fact that they are not welcomed or good but the way and manner they are being put to use is what we are going to address in this article.
Majority may have the idea that too much or loud sounds could cause damage to the ear but do they know the extent of damage this could cause? And what possible solutions have they proffered to reduce that rampant usage as to save the world from the hearing problems that could emanate from the use of these devices?
The advanced countries/nations have tried to proffer solutions to curb excessive noise in our environments by putting some guidelines in residential areas but do you also know that even with that Noise is uncontrollable?
Read this piece of information and see reasons for yourself and also apply caution thereafter to your life.
Technology is a welcomed development to the world but many ignore its effects to the human lives or system. Take for example the use of earphones – this in some cases reduced the use of headphones if not whenever anyone passes by you he has one thing or the other in his ears either listening to some music and shaking visibly or vibrating to whatever it is or talking along the roads/streets. In some cases these are not healthy to the body.
It is good sometimes to keep the body and the spirit/soul working effectively by giving it some sounds but is it necessary to engage in such practices as having the phones constantly glued to our ears? The abuse on its usage makes me to wonder if people are aware or conversant with its health hazards. Once that is ascertained I believe there will be a level of constraint in their uses.
As indicated above, the devices or tools are Headphones and Earphones (See pictures of different types and kinds) and how they are used.
Different types of Head/Ear phones
Why do people use these devices Do they realize its effects on them or they just don’t care about any consequential effects in the long run?
So many earphones and headphones have been so rampantly used that one wonders if there are no side effects of these devices. In this article, I want to look at some of these devices/tools, types, uses and their effect on human health. The use of these devices do they have any effect on us or on our health?
This is an area I will be beaming my search light on as to reveal the effects of using these ear and head phones on our health. Definitely, no good gifts or things that will claim a hundred percent perfection- the headphones and the earphones are not an exception to that. They are a hundred percent inclusive in that statement. They are a very good tool that aid in various aspects of life but cautionary measures must also be applied in their usage.
Let’s look at some of their health hazards. A publication from the Stony Brook surgery stated that: Noise from improper use of In-Ear Headphones – Ear buds, Buds, Earphones- may put hearing at risk.” Stony Brook (ibid) further stated that, although they are presently a major advancement in Personal portable sound systems that could be worn for a long period, these devices are potentially dangerous if used improperly and they can cause permanent hearing loss. What you enjoy using could damage your hearing and cause a hearing loss. This could happen soon or later in life. I don’t think anyone will be happy or excited with such a condition.
The Stony Brook continued by saying that a Hearing loss is a medical disorder that affects nearly 36 million adults in the United States. This is just in one part of a country – what about the entire universe that is glued to the use of these devices? No one is left out both our youths and adults alike but presently the usage is more rampant with our youths – our future leaders, who knows what the future will hold for us as regards this trend.
Some even go to bed with these devices stuck to their ears all day and night if not some warnings that are being given to curtain the excessive use of phones and their accessories, it could have been more disastrous.
Although other factors are also known to cause hearing loss – the excessive sound emissions allowed into our ears is alarming and we must curtail or contain this excessive use to save our generation from this self inflicted pain/or disorder that might be difficult to correct.
We are not going to itemized the various brands of these products but for the headphones we shall simply state that they are either wired headphones or wireless. The difference among them being the wire and maybe some added accessories to add aesthetics and enhancement of such devices in its functions.
They were mostly used by these categories of people to discharge their functions effectively most especially in the Entertainment industry –
The DJs’ while discharging their function need to know what they are giving out so the headphones enable them to listen as well as give out to their listeners/spectators. Musicians too and all other entertainers alike.
They are also used during personal practice – like when running, walking, to remain focus, sporting and whatever you want to do without any distraction – they on their own are enough distractions but once they allow you to engage in your activities, you are good to go but they must be taken off once you are through with what you are doing so that you can listen or attend to your environmental needs too.
And other members of the society and professions who needed some form of hands-free devices that will allow them engage meaningfully while enjoying soft entertainments.
Some are translators used for communication and others for hearing aids to those that have already lost their hearing etc.
Earphones comes in variety of types and styles and also from several different brand names which I will not bother to mention. Some of the most popular types are as follows:
These are the ones DJs’ normally use for their activities. They work almost like a sound proof room; the ear pads fit around the outside of the ears in a circular design. This help to keep all the sounds within the space between the ear pad and the ear. They are effective for filtering out ambient sound.
What about the Supra-Aural? This type have ear pads that sit on the ears rather than around the ear. They are like the 1980s Walkman but are still in use all over the world.
Ear Buds : These are one of the most convenient and inexpensive earphones . They are placed directly outside the ear carnal without actually enveloping it.
Canal Phones: These are similar to ear buds, except that they go directly into the ear canal. Not only do they provide great sound but they have great portability also. People in athletics or those engage in walking around love this type because they are comfortable as well as stay glue to the ears.
We have stated that the technological advancement in the use of these devices are a good and welcome development, but the excessive use of these devices is what has prompted this write up and the resultant effects on our lives.
I am writing this to warn users of these devices to apply caution to its use as to save their lives from unforeseen circumstances – especially loss of hearing and other associated ailments.
Also, I will not advise anyone to use them while driving, riding a bicycle, etc. Looking at the above picture where the man was crossing the road, the danger of such actions could be serious or fatal and should be discarded or discouraged. A situation where a cyclist puts on his headphones and cycling on a high speed, he may not be aware of any dangerous spots in his vicinity and may crash into any standby vehicle or anything. Such self infliction should be avoided by all means and caution applied in everything we are engaged in. Certain accidents can actually be stopped or controlled on our ways, in our homes, our offices and wherever we find ourselves.
The only way to help is to create this awareness, as you read through this article, tell your friend, family members and all those around you. Hearing loss could be permanent or temporary. It could degenerate further to cause more damage to the entire body since they are all connected together by one way or the other. We should not allow the luxury we enjoy today to cause us pain in our ears and in our overall well-being.

David was a Shepherd boy who was gifted in music and playing of instruments. During his life time he had numerous wives and children among whom were Adonijah and Solomon.
He became old, weak and weary yet at this time he was yet to appoint his successor/heir to the throne. Although God had loved one of his sons and had promised him that one from his loins was going to succeed him or sit on his throne.
According to 2 Samuel 3:2-4 (paraphrased), “And unto David were sons born in Hebron; and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelites … and the fourth Adonijah the son of Haggith ….” The passage here stated that Adonijah was the fourth son of his father King David while he was ruling in Hebron. He ruled there for seven years before becoming king of Israel.
Whereas Solomon was one of the younger brothers – say the 10th in the family. Solomon and others were born in Jerusalem when their father was the king of Israel. His mother was Bathsheba (Uriah’s wife – 2 Samuel 11: 3). The Bible stated in that same book chapter five from verses thirteen through sixteen as paraphrased thus: “And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron; and there were yet sons and daughters born to him. And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; …and Nathan and Solomon….” So, we see that Solomon was one of those born in Jerusalem.
In another dimension, the bible stated that the Lord loved Solomon when he was born and gave him the name Jedidiah through his Prophet Nathan.
Jedidiah is an Hebrew word which means “Beloved of the Lord or Friend of the Lord”. Let’s state the verse for more understanding. 2 Samuel 12: 24 – 25 as follows: ” “And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her; and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon; and the Lord loved him. And He sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.”
This was because these two personalities were mentioned in connection to the throne and to show the supremacy of God concerning issues of our lives. To continue to trust our God because He is a covenant keeping God. None who put their trust in Him shall be disappointed. Yes calamity will struck, but I tell you His grace and mercies are sufficient. He does not fail His own, believe in His promises and continue to hold on to Him. And no matter how hard things may look, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
As stated above, king David was old and weak and at that time was yet to appoint a successor to the throne. And anything could happen to him. In the first instance, when he was still vibrant, his son Absalom fought his father to take over the throne but luck ran out on his when he got stuck to the branch of a tree. This made King David’s men to seize the opportunity to struck him down and he fell by the sword.
Also David was a man that trusted God in everything and God also had declared unto him that He will set up his seed after him. Therefore David left the choice of a successor to his throne to God His Father.
The Bible stated that Amnon the first son had problem with Absalom concerning their little sister Tamar who happens to be of the same stock with Absalom. Two years after that, Absalom organized a feast, where he invited the King and all his brothers – i.e the king’s sons. The bible further stated that Absalom never indicated any sign of anger any day or time during these two years period but had planned with hi s men what they should do during the feast. Hence Amnon was killed causing fear, panic and pain to their father that rejected going but gave approval for the feast with his brothers.
The second born was Chileab born by Abigail (Naboth’s wife). Chileab was also born in Hebron. This child was loved by his father as well as God to the extent that God sent his prophet to name him Daniel. Apart from that not much was written about him.
The third being Absalom -the dissident son of the King. He was acclaimed to be the most handsome of all the King’s sons as recorded in 2 Samuel 14:25 which says: “But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him”. That was how he was described but I termed him the dissident son because after the death of his brother, he went on self exile and returned to the land after his father had forgiven, He still went on to plot against his father as to kill and overthrow his father. He never wanted to wait who knows the throne could have been his or maybe he saw the handwriting of God on the walls based on the birth of people like Solomon into the family.
He must have been afraid that he may lose the throne as a result of which he decided to topple/overthrow his father who was now resting from all other battles from his enemies. This led to his death because God has a way of doing His own thing. And maybe he could have succeeded in killing his father since he had some Ahithophels monitoring and guiding him to destroy his own family.
May God deliver the world from such Ahithophels, because as David the servant of the Most High prayed and his counsel became foolishness so it shall be unto those who will want to destroy this beautiful place God created for us. See 2 Samuel 15:31; 17: 1- 23. While Absalom was chasing his father and his men for to kill them, his hair hung on a branch of a tree and his enemies seized the opportunity to end it all. Although his father was sore distressed on losing his son, that remained the only option to return home peacefully .
All these scenarios left Adonijah as the heir apparent to the throne but by then Solomon and others were born and God had transferred the love to Solomon. I think this made the father not to appoint anyone. Being a man after God’s heart and always surrenders everything about him to God. He already knew God’s choice will finally take over from him hence he never bothered.
2 Samuel 7:12 stated thus: “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up they seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. There was no way Adonijah could have succeeded his father because David knew that God’s promises to His children never fails- they come to pass. So the promises made by God to him will come to pass especially on the chosen of the Lord
Adonijah didn’t understood this he couldn’t have gone to take over the kingdom when his father had not told him to do so. He also knew about God’s love for his younger brother Solomon but went ahead to try doing things with his physical power. Hence so many things stood against Adonijah when all possible considerations were to his favor from the top by the death of his elder brothers but the bottom that he was never afraid of toppled him because God was involved at that bottom.
1 Kings 1:5-50 indicated how Adonijah exalted himself by saying he was going to be the king hence prepared chariots and horsemen and other fifty men to run ahead of him. Though his father saw what was going on, he paid a deaf ear and blind sight to everything Adonijah was doing and he felt that meant approval from his father, until when informed by his wife Bathsheba through Nathan the prophet about Adonijah’s actions that He ordered the prophet and the priest to get Solomon ride on his mule to the coronation ground and be anointed as King of Israel. This action of the king brought so much fear upon Adonijah and his men who conspired to almost rob Solomon of his God given throne and he held on to the horn at the altar to make Solomon swear not to hurt him.
Adonijah should have remained quiet and rule the kingdom of their father with his younger brother whom he himself confirmed in the passage below that “it was his from the Lord”. It’s like telling God why did He choose David over all his elder brothers being someone that was never in the picture of man(i.e David was never qualified )- to become King. if not for God controlling His Servant Samuel, Samuel could have anointed the first of Jesse’s sons but no God is not a man that looks at our physicals but God judges us or sees our heart hence Adonijah missed it all including losing his life.
Adonijah went to meet the king’s mother as recorded in 1 Kings 2:13 -25 and I quote: “And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, “Comest thou Peaceably?” And he said, peaceably. He said, moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee.
And she said, say on. And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign; howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother’s; for it was his from the Lord. And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, say on. And he said, Speak I pray thee unto Solomon the king, (for he will not say thee nay), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.
I Kings 1: 1-4 stated thus: “Now King David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat. Wherefore his servants said unto him, let there be sought for my lord the king, a young virgin; and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a shunammite, and brought her to the king. And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.”
Why should Adonijah ask for his father’s youngest wife from Solomon? Whether the king knew her or not, does not give him the right to request her for to wife. This singular act angered King Solomon who promised him instant death that day. So rather than enjoying his life as the king’s elder brother, he met his death for not living a worthy life as appointed unto him by the king.
This is an interesting story in that something could be your inheritance or right to have/own, but no one could question the authority that be when you do not get it. Live the best possible way that you could achieve your own fame, status etc by engaging yourself in meaningful ventures that will announce you better or that will keep you going.

This is a movie that teaches so many things but I shall handle just one aspect of it – Helping People(it could be your own people or everyone you come across on your way). I know a lot of us that have children and grandchildren must have watched several of these kiddies movies such as Frozen, Sophia the First, Boss Baby, Spy Kids, Elena, The Lion Guard, etc to name but a few but I am so particularly interested in these ones itemized: Moana, Sophia the First and Elena of Avalor. All these movies are geared towards helping people, either their own people, friends and or human beings they come across with in general.
As a grand-mom who is always with my grandchildren, I have to watch whatever movie they love to watch and I even got more addicted to these movies than these children.
I do that to ascertain the kind of movies they are watching if they were right and teaches good lessons or morals and also to pin point lessons they ought to learn as to achieve the right morals or learning from watching such movies. As a result I fell in love with most of these movies. In fact my little grand baby(2+) would want to watch Moana for the whole day and if possible night and she will cry on any changes made by her elder sister or any one. So the love for this particular movie increased.
The story is told on how a community that was formally vibrant in its activities became stalled and only depend on the little resources the land and sea could generate/provide for them until a certain period even the land could no longer produce that which sustains the people and the oceans also ran dry of fishes and so it was almost getting difficult for the community to survive.
In order to keep the community safe from all harms and hazards from both sea and land, the village head banned people from fishing beyond the ocean but at this particular time, the traps could no longer catch any fish and so Moana(a little girl, the Chief’s daughter) – the next in line to the throne ordered the people to fish beyond the ocean since there was none around them. This statement angered her father who shouted at her and told her no one goes beyond the ocean.
Not knowing what could make her father to be so infuriated, she told him they could not go when things were working well but now he could see problems everywhere and so people should be allowed to go and fish beyond the ocean but he shouted the more at her.
Her mother knowing what transpired between father and daughter tried to inform her daughter how her daddy had lost a friend beyond that ocean sometime and how he was helpless and couldn’t rescue that friend.
On hearing from her mother, still defying the orders of her father went out on a secret mission to ascertain the main problems talked about beyond the ocean and set off to the ocean but with the mighty waves saw things for herself that the ocean was actually dangerous if not deadly but she was encouraged by her grandmother when she was informed of the main cause of the problem hence wanted to inform her father of the possible solution to the problem but he refused to listen and rather wanted to destroy the antiquities of their history.
His mother wanting to solve this problem once and for all decided to go ahead of her granddaughter but not without empowering her. Even on her sick bed, she encouraged her to set off to where she could meet Mauwi as to return the stolen heart of Defite- the goddess of fertility of the earth.
Moana was just a little girl who ordinarily should not have taken such a risky journey to the demigod of the sea and land and also the goddess of the fertility of the earth but the spirit to help her people continued to propel her to actions that children of her age could never have embarked upon. Remember she is also the next in line to the throne hence she had been guarded to take responsibilities that calls for decisive actions of a leader. She has been trained to handle tough times and the choice of the ocean from childhood also was to prepare her for this function although she never knew that she was chosen until it resurfaced again in the presence of her grandmother and she admits that she thought it was a dream.
Moana tried to let her father know that he taught her how to help her people and for him standing against that was not right hence she has to do everything within her power to help the people, thanks for the understanding of a grandmother who is spirit filled at all times. And who also told them this story about Mauwi’s action a thousand years ago. As at that time Moana was just a baby. When other children were crying for fear of the darkness that would envelop the entire world there and then also experienced the physical darkness as the chief came in. While in that state, Moana the baby has gone to the ocean bank and tried to rescue a baby turtle from some predators and finally gone into the water where the choice of a savior was done by the ocean.
Because it chose her, the ocean also played a significant role in making sure that the task came to fulfillment . It was always there to render assistance when it can. The same way our God is always there for us at every predicament we experience in life.
He told Moses in Exo.4:15- 17 that :” …And I will be with your mouth and with his(Aaron his brother’s) mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do. So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God. And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” This is empowerment from God Himself to Moses, teaching him everything and going ahead of him to prepare the way for him.
Moana felt that going all the way to solve the problem of the people was the major thing to do to help her people and so she was ready to obey her grandmother so that normalcy could return to her people so they could live and enjoy their lives as it used to be a thousand years ago. Meanwhile her daddy is also concerned about the situation but he was not ready to risk his life nor any member of his community for any kind of task to bring relief to the problem but this little girl was determined and set out, she saw, suffered, almost lost her life and returned victoriously. So it should be with us.
Whenever we find a way to help the least of a brother , what are we doing? Do we all set out to solve the problem or let them die in their problems? God is admonishing us in various passages of the Bible to help our brothers in any small way we can. Jesus said whenever we do any of such task to the least of our brothers that we did it unto Him and our Heavenly Father will reward us. See Matthew 25: 35-40 and I quote:
“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger and ye took me in, Naked and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me;I was in prison and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him saying Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger and took thee in? or naked and clothed thee? or when saw we thee sick or in prison and came unto thee? And the king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”
Moses( A Pharaoh to be) as he learnt all that concerns Egyptian laws and practices but refused to be called and identified as one; he rather identified himself with the suffering people of God, the oppressed in the society, the abused, those that heavy burdens were laid upon. And so one of these periods as he was going round as usual, met a problem which he decided upon by eliminating the Egyptian but rescued his own suffering person.
You see in some cases you want to render assistance to some people, they are the same people that will cause problem for you if not death. Only God will deliver us from such hearts and so this time around, Moses came face to face with two brethren fighting and wanting to know what was amiss, one quickly accosted him if he has come to kill him the way he killed the Egyptian, on hearing this Moses heart was cut into pieces and he ran away for his dear life from the face of his people. (Exodus 2:11 – 15)
It was at this point in time he was called and chosen by God to return to that land of Egypt as to rescue God’s people from the hands of their slave masters and oppressors. And so Moses was reluctant to obey such message from God but who is man to stand against what God has designed? No One. At the end of it all, God’s power was manifested in the lives of both the Israelites and the Egyptians and the deliverance took place amidst opposition from Pharaoh (Exodus three through fourteen.)
Another that was called and chosen was Jesus, who came to deliver mankind from our sins, suffering and eternal condemnation. Jesus came, suffered pain on the cross of Calvary, He died and was buried, On the third day He rose from the dead according to the Gospel of God and went back to His throne, so that we all can look upon Him and be saved from sin.(Matthew 1-2; 16: 13-28; 26 – 28) and he commanded us to preach the good news to all nations baptizing those who believe in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Before His coming prophecies abound, signs were given and all came to pass but the obstinacy of people never allow us to believe in the one who was sent by God to us all. I thank God the grave never held him back like every other dead prophets of God that He should be called a prophet but He stands as the Savior of the World. And in His name we can render help to those in need without fear because He said any time you do such you are doing it unto Him.(Isaiah 7: 10 – 14; 9:6-7; 53 and 61 indicate His functions which He did carried out while on earth).
Whoever God calls, He equips. Especially His presence was always with them so it was right from Adam, even when Adam fell from the garden of Eden, God still visited them to render assistance to Adam and his wife Eve . God was the first Surgeon and tailor who sew dresses for Adam and Eve(Gen. 2: 21 – 22; 3:21). He was the first of all things designer of the ark(Gen.6: 14 -22), after all He is the maker of this world and everything in it.
The Heavens and all terrestrial beings and things, the waters and everything living and non living creatures in all things, the depth and deep places are all His and He knows what goes on everywhere including all the hurricanes and earthquakes and other natural disasters devastating our lands, He knows .
All that is required of us is to render prayers and assistance to those affected and those that need our help.
Right now, so many end time signs are around us and everyone need this assistance. Whoever is undergoing any form of destabilization, the oppressed, the aged, the desolate, prisoners, those affected in either man made disasters and/or natural disasters all need one form of assistance or the other and we cannot leave it for the government alone to do all hence the clarion call everywhere. Princess Diana did hers while alive, Mother Theresa also did her own, we are next on the line to show a helping hand to those in need.
I noticed once upon a time that people are always happy when calamities struck because then they become rich over night and so some people prefer these kind of situations so that they can make themselves wealthy. I pray that such should not be our portion but we shall stand to genuinely help those in dare need. But we should also watch out for such people in our midst and identify them on time. No matter how highly placed they may be.

While I was going through the story of Hannah in 1Samuel 1, verse 22b, I was touched which prompted this write-up. The passage says “Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the Lord and remain there forever.” This is giving back to the Giver who is God.
This was a woman who had none and was in sorrow, in pain, weeping all the time, for her own fruit of the womb. The story have it in 1Sam.1 from verse 1 that Elkanah had two wives Hannah and Peninah and Peninah was blessed with the fruits of the womb in both sexes but for Hannah; there was none except for the love of her husband which continue to sustain her in that relationship.
But you know what, the magnitude of love the husband had for her was more than any number of children Peninah had for him as stated in verse eight – “Then Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?
His actions towards her were always a favorable one as stated in verses three to five which says: “This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord were there. And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb.
A situation of this nature was reported in the story of Jacob. Remember Leah and Rachel (the two sisters whom Jacob married). When Jacob fled from his brother Esau and came to his mother’s kinsmen in Bethel; he met Rachel whom he loved and wanted to marry her. As a result of his request he was asked to served her father his brother in watching his flocks for seven years. And Jacob gladly served but what happened? Laban his kinsman tricked him, cover Leah and sent her to Jacob. Jacob unknowingly went into her only to find out the next morning that it was Leah he was tricked into marrying. When Laban was confronted with the situation, he stated thus in Gen.29:25-27 that:
“So it came to pass in the morning, that behold it was Leah. And he said to Laban, what is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?” And Laban said, “It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years.”
Jacob because of love never hesitated to serve as long as there was a way out of his situation; he was happy and within a short time the seven years period elapsed and he had the love of his life- Rachel.
Verse 31 says, when the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. So it was like every year Leah was giving birth and to Rachel Love sustained her relationship but at a point like Hannah, she broke down and asked her husband Jacob to give her children or else she will die. And her husband out of anger asked her if he was in the place of God who withheld her womb. No matter what, towards the end God always remember his own and blesses them. So Rachel’s children (Joseph and Benjamin) became the most loved children of Jacob.
What I am trying to depict here is “Love”. Love according to 1 Corinthians 13:1 – 8,13 which says: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though i give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed upl does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away…. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three but the greatest of these is love.
We see in this long passage that every other thing will fail or cease but love never fail and it is the greatest. No wonder the love of God upon us.
This kind of love is also noticed in the lives of Abraham and his wife Sarah. Although Sarah had no child Abraham loved her until God promised to bless them with a child at their old age. But because of her age, she laughed over the saying. But with God all things are possible to them that believe. Although she never believed hence gave her maid to fulfill this promise, God told Abraham; not what you have but your wife Sarah. See Gen.17:15-21; “Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her”
Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ismael might live before You!” Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My Covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly…. But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year”.
The ways of God are never the ways of man. Nothing on earth could have made Abraham agree to such statements judging from his own weakness of body due to age as well as the deadness of Sarah’s womb as a result of her age too. But I thank God because people are realizing that age is just a number but what matter is what you think or what your heart says. And so the purpose of God, His plans always surpasses that of man hence they came to pass in the lives of His children. And so at that set time of God and season He brought His words to pass in the lives of Abraham and Sarah and thereafter, when God requested for that single seed of their love; with a willing heart Abraham gave to God and God saw how much Abraham loved Him as far as not withholding back what was given to him but release him to the giver, see Gen.18: 9-15; 21: 1-7; 22:1- 18.
This singular attitude of Abraham made God to embarrass him with the blessings we are all benefiting today as recorded in Gen.22:15-18. “Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son – blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
See what obedience of one man brought upon all the earth – the multitude of people we have in all the nations of the world. Hence everyone is Abraham’s seed and declares his blessings upon our lives.
John 3:16 says; “For God so loved the world that He Gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God gave us freely and all that is required of us is to believe in that which He gave us so that we can live eternally with Him.
God saw the sinfulness of His creation since after the fall of the first man and woman at the garden of Eden – and in order to reconcile man – his own image back to Himself – He made several efforts in sending various people including prophets to warn his children of sin and its consequences especially the sin of Idolatry – where other gods made with hands are preferred than Him (Our Creator, Sustainer and Protector). This angered God hence gave man freedom to choose what life he would like to live – whether to live right and have everlasting life or live wrongly and face condemnation and or damnation. All the prophets were either slaughtered, jailed or banned from delivering God’s messages. The last of the prophets before the coming of Jesus, John the Baptist was beheaded on a flimsy excuse of fulfilling a vow made to a little girl Herodias daughter for dancing to the pleasure of the King. what a life! and even when the master came; He too was nailed on the cross of Calvary- although His was for the purpose of fulfilling the Love of God for mankind- His creation, but what about others after Jesus especially His disciples? No one wants to know or hear about God; the little or none known is okay but in Technology they are world leaders . This made God to send His son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
In that 1Samuel 1: 24 – 2:1; After Hannah has weaned the child (Samuel), she went back to that place (Shiloh) where she poured out her heart to God to return back what God has done for her. She said to the Priest in verse 26-28, “O my lord! As your soul lives, my Lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord. for this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.”
And we saw how Samuel served God and God used him mightily to lead his people- the Israelites and their kings.
I came face to face with this situation in my community and that child Samuel is still serving in the vineyard of God as a Priest. He was handed over just as in the case of Hannah and he grew up not living with his parents but in the vineyard of God until be became a Priest. It is very good to acknowledge the goodness of God always in our lives by giving freely to God.
Be generous to the poor and needy as recorded in Deuteronomy 15:7b: …you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs”
Is this still possible in our localities? i.e being generous to the poor or needy or to ones brother? There exist a probability as a result of evil in the hearts of men. This evil should be discarded so that the sweet life being experienced by our fore parents will be resuscitated or resonated.
See also Proverbs 3:27-28; “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do so. Do not say to your neighbor Go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it when you have it with you.
John the Baptist in one of his teaching have this to say in Luke Gospel Chapter three verse eleven, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none, and he who has food, let him do likewise”
Jesus, our great teacher has this to say in Saint Matthew Gospel Chapter 5: 42 ; “Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. He went further to state in verses 43 – 48 that: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy; But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as you Father in heaven is perfect.”
Jesus stated in Matthew 25:40 “And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to me” Those who showed love, kindness and compassion to the needy, Christ will say to them, Come you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from foundation of the world.
Prov.11: 24-25 says; “There’s one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.
Luke 6:38 says; “Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
God commanded his children never to come before Him empty thus in Deut. 16:13-17, He says “You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your wine-press…. seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord Your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice. three times a year all your males shall appear before the Lord Your God in the place which he chooses; …and they shall not appear before the Lord Empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.”
There is no compulsion in giving unto your God knowing fully that as you give so He gives back to you. With what heart you give so shall your blessings hence we are warned or reminded to give cheerfully not grudgingly as recorded in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7; “But this I say; He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
King David in 2 Sam 24:24 says, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing” When David was to appease God for hearing his prayers and delivering him from his sinfulness – David purchased that field before offering sacrifice to His God. Also when they were to build the house of God; they people gave until they were halted by the artisans as a result of surplus in materials to be used.
It is the spirit of giving in him. 1 Kings 3:4-5, we see here that King Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings to the Lord and the question that was put to him by God in the dream was “Ask! What shall I give you?” And the request made manifested in the live of the young king.
During the days of the Apostles, the Bible recorded in Acts 4:32 – 37 that believers who had, sold and brought their proceeds to the Apostles who distributed to all and none said what he owns was his. this brought about the creation of the office of Deacons and Stephen became the first Deacon, so as to assist the Apostles in the distribution of gifts, foods, etc to the teaming population of the church.
Giving must be of a pure heart. Now the bible says if you want to give to God and you know you have any problem with your brother, it said leave your alms and be reconciled first with that your brother or friend before offering those gifts (See Matt.5:24).
We shall briefly state a few of the consequences. In Acts 5:1 – 10, we saw how Ananias and his wife trying to fool themselves rather than God met their death – hence it is not compulsory. If you must give, then give freely with a cheerful heart; with love flowing from your heart and not grudging; cursing because you might be giving to a church or a particular person – your rewards do not come from those that receive from you but from God who rewards those who diligently seek Him and do His will.
Proverbs 13:7 sums it all up; “There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, and one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches”
Choose where you belong. I will admonish you to Give, Give and expect nothing in return for your maker is He who rewards every giver. So Let Us Give and receive our blessings from God.
And it is only when we exhibit Love for Our God and our neighbors that we can give with a whole heart,
